When I grew up in BC, forest fires were a rare occurrence. As a child, I never remember feeling threatened by the thought of wildfires, nor do I ever remember being in the midst of either the aftermath of a fire or an actual fire.
However, this has dramatically changed over the past 10 years. I ride motorcycles through much of the backroads and forested areas of British Columbia these days and on every one of these rides, I come across burnt forests.
Although the topic of Wildfires is top of mind in BC these days, I don't think the average British Columbian is aware of the magnitude of the damage of wildfires. I see this on every ride...it's deeply concerning and sad.
