Wildfire smoke convinced me it was EV time
February 17, 2026
In the summer of 2018 I spent some time looking toward Vancouver Island from the Sunshine Coast. All I could see was smoke, and at times I could only see a few hundred meters along the coast. Because I am an Industrial Hygienist I was wearing a respirator with P100 filters. I connected the smoke, climate change and fossil fuel combustion. I realized that the smoke was part of the price for using fossil fuels.
The first Tesla Model 3 had arrived in Vancouver a few months before. I recognized that I could reduce my contribution to climate change by driving an EV, so I ordered the one in the picture.
We have enjoyed driving it to Palm Springs, Edmonton and Tofino.
