Early crocuses in Vancouver

Mainland/Southwest
Food safety and security| Resilience and adaptive capacity
Crocuses are already blooming in Vancouver, weeks ahead of normal after an unusually mild winter. Their early bloom is beautiful but when flowers emerge early, pollinators, birds, and other species are nudged out of their usual rhythms, further straining our ecological systems. Climate change doesn’t always arrive as an emergency or a headline. Sometimes it shows up quietly, in petals opening early, reminding us that the world is shifting in subtle ways we might not always notice or see as a sign of larger changes around us and to us.
