Worrying for friends and family back home

Outside BC
Flooding| Mental health impacts| Severe storms| Stories with testimony
My 95-year old aunt immigrated to BC from the Philippines about 35 years ago. One of her favorite pastimes is watching Filipino news. During typhoon season (July-Oct), she is frequently dismayed about worsening typhoons in her hometown. With her permission, I’m passing on her words. She has many fond stories of the rivers and says she’s never seen this kind of pollution or flooding devastation before. She expresses anger at the lack of infrastructure - "the government is corrupt" and does not protect "the poor people" who have nowhere to go and have to keep rebuilding over and over. She sends small toiletries and goods (“balikbayan boxes”) and is saddened that she cannot help more.
