Rings of Loss

Air Quality| Ecosystems
This tree stump represents more than a single loss; it reflects the countless trees being cut down around the world. Each ring tells a story of time, growth, and life that has now been brought to an end. When I heard about forests in Jeju Island, South Korea, being cleared to build houses, I was a bit sad. Deforestation not only destroys natural habitats but also contributes to climate change by reducing carbon storage and increasing greenhouse gas levels. This, in turn, impacts human health through poorer air quality and environmental instability. Of course, trees are often removed for development, but this photo reminded me that progress often comes at the cost of something irreplaceable.
