Smoke on the water

Thompson-Okanagan
Air Quality| Drought| Water quality and security| Wildfire
Looking over Kalamata Lake at sunset, the smoke from wildfires loom over a low shoreline. Locals told us it was the lowest the lake has been in 80 years. It was wild to see the effects of drought while also breathing in smoke from fires burning elsewhere. The low water felt like a slow and ongoing change; while the smoke was more temporary, distant and urgent. Together, they made climate risk feel both here and there, visible above and below.
