The loss of the summer campfire

Ten years ago, I bought a propane campfire during a campfire ban. At the time, it seemed a frivolous purchase, likely to only be used every couple of years. Now, it’s our summer ritual. With fire bans a yearly certainty, our kids’ campfire memories hum with propane instead of crackle with wood. The changing climate has quietly altered this summer tradition.
