Early sprouting

Mainland/Southwest
Air Quality| Ecosystems| Extreme heat
I took this photo in my front yard in the middle of February, a week after a snowstorm. After the snow, the rain came, warming the weather and allowing new shoots of daffodils and basil to grow in the soil, even though it was not spring yet. This photo demonstrates the rapidly rising temperatures with milder winters due to climate change, altering the growth cycle of several plants. This can lead to more pollen in the air, which worsens allergic reactions and respiratory health and increases habitats for disease vectors such as mosquitoes, further impairing human physical health.
