Mental health impacts| Wildfire
Wildfires reveal how deeply climate change impacts our health - body, mind, and spirit. From a Two-Eyed Seeing lens, which brings together Indigenous and Western ways of knowing, we understand that the smoke choking the air is more than a physical danger, it disrupts relationships with the land, the seasons, and community. Children struggle to breathe, Elders feel the weight of grief and disconnection, and those with existing health conditions face greater risk. Yet, through shared teachings and care, hope emerges. Communities gather to protect one another, combining modern medicine with traditional knowledge, offering medicines, safe spaces, and ceremony. In times of crisis, we are reminded that healing doesn’t come from one path alone, but from walking together, seeing with both eyes, and holding fast to our shared responsibility to care for each other and the land that sustains us.
