This project, led by the BCCDC's Food Security team, aims to share experiences of food costs, food access and climate change from people living in remote Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities of BC. Communities were first engaged in 2022, and the stories were received in 2023. Communities differed based on their geography, culture, history and other factors, however there were also shared perspectives and opportunities across the province. Overall, five key themes emerged: costs and effort of accessing food; food availability and preservation; unpredictability of a changing climate; community leadership and food programs; and impacts to community health and well-being.
